Metallic silicon (industrial silicon) is the "salt" of modern industry, an important industrial raw material smelted in a submerged arc furnace using silica and carbonaceous reducing agents. Its main component is silicon, containing impurities such as iron, aluminum, and calcium. It is widely used as an additive in non-ferrous metal alloys, in steel smelting, and in the aluminum industry (aerospace and automotive parts manufacturing). Industrial silicon can be purified into polycrystalline silicon and monocrystalline silicon for use in the photovoltaic and electronics industries.

Chemical Applications:
Silicon metal is used in the production of silicones, synthetic silica, and silanes. Silicone products are widely used in various fields.

Technical Applications:
Aluminum alloys. Silicon is dissolved in molten aluminum to improve the viscosity of liquid aluminum and enhance the mechanical properties of aluminum alloys.
Solar cells. Ultra-high purity silicon is used in the production of solar panels. Silicon solar cells are the most commonly used type of battery in commercially available solar panels.

Batteries. Currently, less than 1,000 tons of silicon metal are used in the graphite anode of lithium-ion batteries.
